Mathematical Formula & Engineering Rules
3-Digit: First 2 digits = value, 3rd = 10n multiplier (e.g. 472 = 47 × 100 = 4.7 kΩ).
4-Digit: First 3 digits = value, 4th = 10n multiplier (e.g. 1002 = 100 × 100 = 10 kΩ).
EIA-96: 2 digits represent significant digits from the EIA-96 lookup table, followed by a letter multiplier (A=1, B=10, C=100, D=1k, E=10k, F=100k, X=0.1, Y=0.01).
Worked Engineering Example
Example: Code '01Y'
- Lookup '01' in EIA-96 table = 100.
- Letter 'Y' represents multiplier 0.01.
- Resistance = 100 × 0.01 = 1.00 Ω (1% tolerance).
